What's In It For Us?

Matthew 19:27  Peter, God love him, he is so like us, or should that be we are so like him.  After listening to Jesus for a few minutes he comes up with the "perfect question".  "Hey what's in this for us?"  Don't you just love this guy!  He is just saying what many of us have thought to ourselves at times.  Man that stings a bit doesn't it?

Bro Doug was talking about with some people enough, it seems is never enough.  Well Peter was just going back to his roots, you know our selfish side that looks out for #1.  We all do it from time to time face it the problem is we are human.  We want to be taken care of, getting our fair share.  We want what we are due.

When our children were younger there was never a week that went by that we were not settleing disagreements for something or other.  Sometimes it was who was getting the biggest slice of pie or cake. Boy I sort of wish the kids were back at times so I could get a pie or cake, I regress sorry.  Anyway we would have to tell them that one would cut and the other would get to choose first.  Now this called for some precise measurements.  I think no satellite directed laser or the most skilled surgeon could have cut those pieces any straighter or even.  Man they were even!  Oh there would be no mistake everyone would get the EXACT same amount.

How about us today, have we really progressed any farther than Peter?  Do we barter with God?  "God you know I've been good and done this, done that, endured this, and endured that, how about a break here?"  No we would never do that, now we know others who would, but not us.  Jesus answered Peter, (and us), "I tell you the truth".  May be we should ought to wait & see what God has for us before we call out, "Hey what's in it for us".
Just a thought
