Rethink Possible: 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting

40 days of prayer and fasting.  I suspect that to many Baptists, this whole concept of fasting is somewhat foreign.  I must confess, that it wasn't until I began attending a Methodist University that the idea became so familiar to me.  But as I've grown, and studied the scriptures I found fasting to have the potential to be one of the most fruitful practices we can exercise both individually in our walk with Christ, as well as corporately.

As we approach this season of self-denial, prayer, and repentance here are a few tips to guide you in your observance of this rite we are approaching:

Things to consider:
  • Giving up certain foods
  • Limiting what you eat or drink
  • Forgoing some activity/pleasure
  • Stopping some bad habit
  • Limiting time of internet, Facebook, cell phone, etc.
  • Reducing time spent texting, watching t.v., or playing video games

Additional suggestions for the 40 days:
  • Determine your involvement in prayer and the degree of fasting the Lord has laid on your heart
  • Select your own time and place for prayer, meditation, and listening to the Lord
  • Include in your prayers the various aspects, ministries, and programs of FBC.
  • The following prayer concerns will help you focus and be specific in your praying for our church:
    • Worship Services ~ March 20, 27, April 3, 10, 17, and Resurrection Sunday, April 24
    • Our Staff, Deacon Body, SS Teachers, Children and Youth Workers
    • FBC dropouts
    • Faithful attendance and financial commitment by FBC members
    • Spiritual Renewal and fresh direction/purpose for our church
    • My role and place of service in FBC
    • Visible outpouring of God's Spirit in our services
Ask the Lord for daily help and guidance in keeping your commitment throughout these 40 days.

"Our Church:  for His Glory!"

"May the Word of Christ dwell in you richly..."

Corey
